Freddy inks deal with Roosters
The Sydney Roosters have reportedly agreed to terms with Brad Fittler, securing the rookie coach until the end of the 2009 season.
There was no questioning the achievements of Brad Fittler in his short time at the helm since taking over from Chris Anderson several weeks ago. However, Roosters boss Nick Politis and other power brokers were concerned about having to sack Fittler should things go bad. The possibility of bad blood between the Roosters and their favourite son was a worrying possibility.
Fittler has handled himself extremely well considering events of the past few months. Fittler stating his personal understanding that should things turn sour; he would be strong enough to face the music. Not only has Fittler made his future plans to coach the Roosters clear; he has showed a professionalism that other coaches simply do not have.
While it might be good for the 'theatre' of the game - there is nothing more unprofessional than an NRL coach riding the teams progress like a regular supporter on the sidelines. Seeing a top line NRL coach swear and thrash about in the coaches box as TV cameras catch every move is simply under 6's stuff. The antics coming to a head 2 weeks ago when Sharks coach Ricky Stuart punched a hole in the wall of the Parramatta Stadium visitors box.
Fittler has slipped into his role at the helm of the Roosters with an aura that wouldn't be out of place in the worlds biggest of poker rooms. Remaining completely composed and relaying instructions to his teams at critical moments with a clear focus.
The Sydney Roosters have made the right decision in securing Fittler. His professionalism and rapport with his squad will see the Bondi based club get back into the thick of things in 2008.
