Anthony Mundine - NSW Racist Comments

The 'Choc' stops here!
Adam Sutcliffe

It's amazing how easily Anthony Mundine can create a headline and give himself so much more exposure and increase his ability to earn more and reach all corners of the country with his ridiculous comments.

In many ways I wish the media would not publish his stupid remarks; but really Anthony Mundine makes it almost impossible not to reply to his outrageous statements.

To say that NSW is a racist state, and that NRL players of non-caucasion background aren't given a fair go is so unbelievable it's laughable.

The problem is, that many people in NSW are scared to fire back at the likes of Anthony Mundine for fear of getting 'rubbished' for not being politically correct. Who the hell is Anthony Mundine to call NSW racist? If anyone is racist - it's Mundine himself.

NSW is the state he calls home, provided him with the opportunity to play top line NRL, supported him in his venture into boxing and NSW supply the people who turn out in their droves to cheer him on in big time events.

You know what the real issue is? Anthony Mundine and his comments dating back over the past decade are simply to hide his own inadequacy.

Ok, Anthony Mundine was a talented footballer and is certainly very talented in his current trade of boxing. BUT, Mundine wasn't a 'great' footballer and certainly wasn't anywhere near the level or quality of Larie Daley or Brad Fittler - not even close. Mundine knows this, and his bully boy words are a smoke screen for his inability to achieve greatness in the game of NRL.

The reason Anthony Mundine only played a few games for the NSW State of Origin team was because he simply was not good enough. So instead of working harder and trying to force his way into the team, he throws up the white flag and says "NSW are racist and didn't pick me because of colour" - what a cop out. And it just shows his true colours. Aboriginal stars such as Ricky Walford, Arthur Beetson and Gordon Tallis were easily able to play State of Origin because they were the best in their positions. Racism does not play a part, Anthony if you are not happy with NSW, then please leave because frankly we have had enough of your antics.

I was truely saddened when I heard Nathan Merritt go down the same path recently. Nathan Merritt is a boom prospect and is absolutely having a great year with South Sydney. Merritt's form from late last year, and continuing into 2007 - certainly have him on the fringe of NSW origin.

After missing out on City vs Country, Merritt played the race card. "I didn't make the side, because the selectors are racist" Merritt told the media.

How sad. Another cop out. Instead of working harder and forcing selectors not to leave him out - Merritt cries poor - citing racism. It's a such a sad part of today's world. Not only in sport, but in the business world and not just involving racism claims.

For example: Sally misses out on a job because she has no qualifications for the position, instead of studying hard and achieving the requirements - Sally sues the potential employer because they discriminated against her age.

Listen folks, if your NOT good enough - you don't get the gig. It's that simple!

Don't look to blame someone else, don't cry about it - go and work harder. The rewards will be well worth it.

And when guys like Mundine and Merritt claim racism is the reason they couldn't make the top level - it only makes them look like sore losers.

Hey Anthony, your talking with an old mouth. And pretty soon, there won't be too many people listening - even in your own corner.
